Have you ever heard this phrase? “Stop Trading Time for Money”
Ever since a close friend of mine said this to me two years ago, it stuck….and bothers me every time I feel like I’m in a rut and doing exactly that.
In fact this phrase came from Robert Kiyosaki author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
It basically means that if you physically have to be somewhere in order to get paid or need to spend hours doing work in order to get paid, you are doing exactly that….TRADING YOUR TIME FOR MONEY. It’s especially true for the 9 to 5’ers. You have to show up and sit in your cube and do exactly what you are told to get paid….day after day…week after week…year after year.
I’m not trying to sell anything here, thought that a moment of reflection should be in order… are you happy with what you are doing? Or have you just convinced yourself that you are happy to make your life bearable. I know that the answer is passive income…but getting there is the challenge.
I knew over a decade ago when I first started out in a 9-5 job that this is not going to make me happy or keep me satisfied..and I worked at some pretty cool places. I then went on to consulting. Much better in my eyes because I was only contracted to work at a company from 3-6 months and then I was out of there. No politics…not caught up in the daily grind. Just knowing that freedom from the company that I was currently at would be over in a short period of time. But I was working ridiculous hours. The consulting company had me working at 5 different companies at one time. I was juggling so many projects I was working close to 80 hours a week. That is the downside to consulting.
Then I started searching for ways to make money that didn’t require me to work ridiculous hours and pay consistently. I’m still searching. I think my problem is focus….my self-diagnosed A.D.D. (attention deficit disorder). But isn’t that everyone’s problem these days? There are so many things to distract us with modern technology, that unless you are really disciplined you can’t get anything accomplished. I know that by following through on one of my many ideas, I could succeed in my quest to STOP TRADING TIME FOR MONEY!!
I’ll keep you posted on what I decide to do with my dilemma! Please leave a comment if you have the answer! 🙂
Enjoy yourselves and be grateful for what you do have in your life.
